Meet Coach and Expert James Wilson, you may know me by my alter ego, BikeJames. Since 2005 I’ve dedicated myself to creating training programs that meet the unique needs of mountain bikers. I’ve had the chance to write for some of the top mountain biking websites and magazines in the world and I’ve been featured as a guest expert in Men’s Health magazine and Outside.com.
As the “MTB Strength Coach” I’ve had also worked with hundreds of riders, including some of the top pros and teams. In fact, it was while working with a young Aaron Gwin and the Yeti World Cup Team that I started the journey towards this idea.
My goal was to investigate the science behind clipless pedals so that I could design better training programs for them. I figured that since a lot of the riders I was working with on the team raced in clipless pedals I should know how they worked and what I could do to make the riders even better on them.
When I started to find studies that actually disproved what I had been told. Over the years I gathered more science and anecdotal evidence regarding the truth behind the pedal stroke and foot position, eventually putting it all into a document I called The Flat Pedal Revolution Manifesto.
